FatalEncounters.org is the first and largest database of people killed during interactions with law enforcement. Our app is intended to increase awareness and transparency of interactions between law enforcement and the public.

The Fatal Encounters app allows users to do four things:
1) In the event a user is stopped while driving or detained in a public place, the user simply starts the app and places the telephone in an unobstructed place, like a shirt pocket or on the dashboard. Remember, if placing in a jeans pocket or purse, the microphone is on the “bottom” of the phone, and the microphone should remain uncovered. Audio recordings are automatically sent to our cloud servers with GPS coordinates. In the event the phone is confiscated or data deleted, there will be a record of the interaction, which can be obtained by the app owner.

2) In the event a user is witnessing an event where they suspect officer brutality, launch the video recorder, the results of which can be uploaded to our cloud servers. The user will have the opportunity to add a text description.

3) If a user is near an incident but not near enough for photo or video to be practical, upload a text description of the event, and your GPS coordinates will be included.

4) Finally, the app enables connection to a mobile version of the FatalEncounters.org database, the world’s largest database of officer-involved deaths.
